Some of our Production team was recently featured in The Daily Tar Heel, read the article about Women in Film!
We are Nick Bafia and Julia Stamey, two North Carolina students (a recent-grad and a current Junior), and we are making a feature-length musical film to submit to the 2021 Oscars (93rd Academy Awards).
Why a musical? The Oscars has a category for "Best Original Musical". And you're thinking, "I've never heard of that"... well it's because it has never had enough eligible submissions, due to the lack of original musical films in mainstream media.
So, if other teams of students, and professionals, across the nation can make qualifying projects, OUR TEAM has a shockingly real chance at winning an Oscar!
This sounds ambitious... but in the Spring of 2019, Bafia-Stamey Productions wrapped filming on an entirely original, student-produced feature-length musical film, Fix. A team from Georgia Tech is currently in production on their film too! And more films are coming soon.
We figure, even if we don't win the Academy Award, we can be proud to accomplish such a large project as students and aspiring filmmakers, while inspiring others to aim high with their art!
